Spode Copeland England Canton #528 Oval Soup Tureen Base w/ Underplate 1879-80
This is an oval soup tureen with matching underplate made by Copeland (Spode) in England. It has the incised Copeland mark.
The design is Copeland's #528 called Canton.
It has the red trim at the rim edge and the rim is smooth. The date code is N79 for November 1879.   The tureen is large and measures 13" long or slightly over 15" from handle to handle.  The underplate measures 15 1/2" from handle to handle.  It is dated January 1880 or J80.
The interior designs feature a blue vase sitting on a brown desk with a hanging lamp over a planter all in an Oriental theme. The outer ring is bright red with a floral design on the rim.
The blue and green colors look and feel hand painted. The red, brown and black that look like a transfer underneath.  The brown has a sheen and sparkles like gold trim especially at the rim.  The handles have a scroll like design
Soup Tureen base and underplate are in excellent condition with no chips, nicks or cracks. They are fabulous! There is a lid, however it is severely cracked. It would need to be repaired before you could use it as the heat would probably finish the job. I am not sure if it will arrive safely in shipment so I am not including it in the price of the item. I will put it in the box for free if you want it but it will not be insured if broken. I do have a photos of it so you can decide for yourself if it is worth shipping.
