Rare Vintage Brena Oaxaca Mexican Art Pottery Tea Cup & Saucer Brown & 22k Gold. This rare, beautiful cup and saucer set is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or breaks noted. Crafted of red clay and hand decorated in an Aztec design in 22k gold over terra cotta painted background with 22k gold applied to the rims and glazed inside and out. Complimenting the Aztec design is the angular handle of the cup. Each piece is designed and decorated by hand and marked “Brena Oaxaca Mexico” and initiated by the designer on the underside of the pieces. Because each piece is handcrafted, irregularities in the pottery can be expected. There are a few places on the bottom of the saucer where the glazing has worn off, possibly from storage and some type of irregularity on the top of the saucer. There are a few scratches in the gold trim around the cup. Please see pictures. This piece belonged to my husband’s grandmother and remained in her estate.
The cup measures approximately 2-1/8” in height and 2.5” opening. The saucer measures approximately 4-3/8” in diameter.
