    Description

This is a sweet clay figure of a
Mother carrying her baby on her back and holding a large bouquet of Calla Lilies...
    She
    was
    hand
    made
    in
    Santa María Atzompa
    by
    Antonia Nayeli Vasquez Velasco
    .
I will be listing many more pieces by Antonia and her father
    Oscar Espinoza Vasquez
    in the
    next
    few days...
Atzompa is a town outside the city of Oaxaca that is famous for it's pottery tradition which dates back to Pre-Hispanic
    times.  There is a wonderful
    archeological site
of the ancient city of Atzompa just up the hill from the modern town. Antonia has signed this piece on the back of the Devils tail....
    She
    measures: 5 1/4 inches Tall by 2 3/4 wide and 2 1/2 inches deep.
"Born to folk artist parents, Antonia began working at age five, playing with pieces and then creating them for sale. Always enhancing her ceramic work, she is motivated by contests and sales; it was extremely important to her to receive honorable mention in FOFA’s 2013 young artists’ competition. Antonia believes we must value the earth, and emphasizes the opportunity we have to create things with natural earth products, such as clay, molding the earth and creating things not yet conceived."
