Description

The geometric design on this pot is exquisite -- a unique combination of brick red and charcoal black over a silver black ceramic pot -- one of a kind.
Mata Ortiz is a small village in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico near the United States/Mexican border and adjacent to the ancient ruins of Casas Grandes. There has been a revival of the Mata Ortiz ancient Mesoamerican pottery tradition, inspired by pottery from the ancient city of Paquime.
The pots are hand built without a potter's wheel and made entirely with local materials.
Macaria Ortiz lives and works in Mata Ortiz. She is married and often produces work with her husband, another fine potter working in this new style.
This pot signed by Macaria Ortiz on bottom.
The pot itself measures 2 1/4" height x 2 1/4" diameter.
It is in very good to excellent condition but with a few minute flecks of red gone (see photos).
