Dolores Porras (1937 - 2010)Mermaid Vase - Mexican Ceramic Pottery Folk Art - Rare
Dolores was born in 1937. From the age of thirteen, she dedicated her life to making pottery. In the 80s, she began to experiment with new techniques to obtain a greater variety of tones that, based on the oxidation process of metals obtained a glazed finish, beyond the green color used traditionally in Atzompa.
Dolores Porras, is considered one of the finest woman potters from Mexico. Dolores left behind her an amazing body of work which spanned over 60 years. She lived in the village of Atzompa, Oaxaca, Mexico and worked with Teodora Blanco. She became known for her raised elements used to decorate and accentuate her pieces as well as her use of innovative glazes.
This Mermaid Vase is in great shape. No Cracks , No Chips. Raised /3D image. It is a very unique piece if you compare it to her other vases online. It has a Picasso type look to it.
