1860 EARLY PONTILED HAND BLOWN GLASS APOTHECARY STORAGE PANTRY JAR &ORIGINAL LID

Description

This is an early hand blown pontiled glass pantry storage jar or apothecary drugstore jar from the 1860s with its original hand soldered tin lid....hand blown in dip mold, so there are no mold seams....rough pontil scar bottom....smooth sheared wide mouth......clear....8"tall (8 3/4"counting lid) x 4 3/4"round....Excellent shiny nice condition with only one small shallow chip on top rim, along with a surface bruise at same spot on inner edge of lip; no other damage. A nice clean jar with no haze. Normal old wear on bottom. Original hand soldered tin lid is really nice and solid.   Guaranteed authentic and over 150 years old. This type of jar was very popular with women in the mid 1800s for storing herbs, beans, dried goods,etc. Also druggists used this type of jar for storing powdered medicines and dried ingredients for compounding prescriptions.
